Dr. Tunde Afolabi, the Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, has contributed a substantial sum of N1 billion to inaugurate the university’s ambitious N5 billion development fund.

This pivotal announcement took place during the grand finale of ACU’s 15th convocation ceremony, where 30 individuals received Doctor of Philosophy certificates across various disciplines.

The ceremony was further distinguished by the bestowal of honorary doctorate degrees upon Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, Sir Gbolahan Folayan, Chairman of Sifax Group, and Mrs. Kate Isa.

Expressing his endorsement of the fundraising initiative, the chancellor addressed the pressing issue of inadequate funding in Nigerian education, underscoring the example of globally recognized institutions like Harvard University with endowment funds generating billions of dollars.

Dr. Tunde Afolabi confidently affirmed that the ACU development fund would be realized within five years.

In an earlier address, Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, outlined several forthcoming projections for the institution, characterizing them as graceful, lofty, and achievable.

However, he emphasized that these projections hinge on securing adequate, robust, and sustainable funding. The commitment to this cause was further demonstrated by the generous contributions of awardees, with Afolabi donating N20 million and the husband of Kate Isa announcing a substantial donation of N50 million.

This collective support underscores the significance of both institutional and individual backing in advancing educational excellence.
