Lagos Flood Sweeps Children

2 children got swept away in a flooded canal around 8pm in Oyebanjo Street, Ketu.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), were called on to respond swiftly. However, the team could not rescue the children due to the power outage.

The Lagos state government and ministry of environment have been called upon to work on the water channels to avoid further disaster since the canal is not big enough to accommodate flood waters.

A lot of people were left distressed as the flood swept through their homes too.

LASEMA Director-General, Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, described the event as tragic and urged the citizens to make sure their wards are not allowed to move around in the dark areas flooded by water.

“The Agency’s tiger team commenced a search and rescue operation along the path of the floodwater. Initial observations revealed a sloping topography with a direct channel of drain water into the canal. This has proven to be rather challenging to navigate,” he said.
