Orji Kalu made this statement in a private visit to two former head of states of Nigeria, Abdulsalami Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida in Minna.
“I am still in the senate, and I will seek for re-election into the senate but if our people want me to serve as president I will not hesitate,” he said.
He also stated that anyone in the All Progressive Congress (APC) can contest for presidency due to the nonavailability of zoning in the party’s constitution.
Kali Orji, the former governor of Abia state, and the chief whip was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside Ude Jones Udeogu, a former director of finance and accounts in Abia over the case of money laundering to the tune of N7.1billion. He was released in June 2020 after spending 5 months in Kuje Correctional centre.
On May 8, the supreme court nullified the conviction of Kalu and Udeogu on the grounds that Mohammed Idris, the trial judge, did not have jurisdiction to hear the matter.
