A Pan-Yoruba Socio-cultural group, Yoruba KO’YA Movement on Wednesday kicked off what it described as a crusade across all the six state capitals of the South West, Nigeria to call for the restructuring of Nigeria’s political, economic and social structures.
The action tagged: “SIT OUT FOR RESTRUCTURING CRUSADE”, according to a statement made available to News Men in Lagos on Wednesday by the group National Organizing Secretary, Mr. Maxwell Adeyemi Adeleye, will not end until the House of parliaments in Yoruba Land takes it upon themselves to champion the restructuring of Nigeria.
Convened by Otunba Ayodeji Osibogun, CEO, SPACE FM, Ibadan with prominent Yoruba leaders such as Pa. Ayo Adebanjo, Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi, Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu as Patrons, the group gave notice to the Central Government of Nigeria to restructure the political and economic structures of the country or risk a mother of all mass action which it said is already imminent, stressing that it is only through restructuring that crimes and social vices such as Kidnapping, Farmers vs Herdsmen Clashes, Armed Robbery and the raging hunger, poverty, starvation, Youth Unemployment, infrastructure decadence, corruption in public service, lack of quality and affordable education and health care services could be drastically reduced it not nailed in the nub.
The members of the group in Lagos dressed with customized t-shirts; sharing fliers; armed with megaphones and drums and tambourine to entertain themselves, marched from Ojodu-Berger area of the state to the State House of Assembly situated at Alausa, Ikeja to present its policy paper on restructuring but was unable to meet the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa due to the fact that the house is currently on recess.
The Senior Special Assistant to Rt. Hon. Suraji Adekunbi, Speaker, Ogun State House of Ogun State House of Assembly on Political Matters, Hon. Waheed Akinola who addressed the members of the Movement led by the state Co-ordinator, Comrade Timothy Odedina to the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta, the state capital said the Speaker and other members of the House will formally address the movement on May 3rd.
In Osun State, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Salami Najeem Folasayo who was unavoidably unavailable sent a message to address the members of the movement tomorrow Thursday April 26th by 10am.
The crusade which also took place in Akure, Ibadan and Ado-Ekiti, the capitals of Ondo, Oyo and Ekiti States respectively went on peacefully.
The crusade is expected to resume tomorrow across the six states in South West.
The clerk of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Tola Esan who confirmed the receipt of the letter of the group addressed to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Kola Oluwawole told the leader of the group, Comrade Shina Awopeju to come back with his members tomorrow for formal presentation of the agitation of the movement to the House.
Recall that the group had on April 13th led a peaceful protest held simultaneously across the six states in South West, Nigeria to call for restructuring of Nigeria.
On when the crusade will come to an end, Adeleye said “we are not going to leave the streets of Yoruba land until our demands for restructuring are met”.
