Katsina State civil servants from Grade Level 8 and above are to swear to an oath of secrecy as part of efforts by the state government to protect sensitive information from being leaked to the public.
The development was contained in a circular signed by the Director, Administration and Supply, Office of the Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Abdulaziz Suleiman.
“In an effort to ensure conformity with relevant rules and regulations governing the conduct of civil servants in the state, the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, has granted approval for the revival and adherence to signing of Oath of Secrecy as per the provision of Public Service Rules No. 020209 by all officers on GL 08 and above, which is consistent with CAP 91, Part 11, Official Oaths Laws of Katsina State.“
In July, a resident of Katsina, Muhammad Mahdi Shehu, had accused the governor of spending N52bn on frivolities and asked the EFCC to conduct an investigation. The state had in August 2020 warned civil servants against what it called “improper participation of public servants on social media platforms.”
