PSP Operators Hail Lagos Assembly’s Recall Resolution

The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria, popularly called PSP operators , has described as a welcome development the recall of its members by the Lagos State House of Assembly .
The Assembly had on Thursday passed a resolution that the PSP operators should return to their function of managing waste in the state .
The Assembly reportedly denied knowledge of the foreign company, Visionscape , engaged by the Lagos State Government to take over waste management in the state from the PSP operators .
The Speaker of the Assembly , Mudashiru Obasa, directed that the Commissioner for Finance should stop releasing money to Visionscape , explaining that the foreign firm ’ s contract with Lagos State was without the Assembly ’ s knowledge and approval .
In a statement on Thursday by their spokesman , Olugbenga Adebola , the PSP operators described the development as welcome , saying the Assembly had “ lived up to the expectation and yearnings of all well-meaning Lagosians. ”
The PSP operators had had a running battle with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode when Visionscape was brought in to take over their job of managing waste in the state.
The imbroglio was listed among the various reasons why the governor was denied the ticket to run for a second term in office.
“ We want to thank the Speaker, Right Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, for his tenacity and consistency in speaking the truth always .
“ We equally thank Honourable Gbolahan Yishawu for listening to the general complaints by Lagosians on the current waste management regime in the state.
“ History will not forget this heroic act.
“ We were denied access to the Transfer Loading Stations in the state for over two years , therefore , the resolution that all dumpsites and TLSs be opened to PSP operators is in the right direction .
“ This is because the disposal sites are the bedrock of any meaningful waste management system , ” the PSP operators said in their statement on Thursday.
They said they looked forward to sitting down with relevant authorities to discuss and work out the implementation of the Assembly ’ s resolutions.
